On World Hepatitis Day, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya emphasised the need of spreading awareness regarding this disease. He said the day was commemorated to generate awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of liver that may lead to cancer.
The Governor asked people to take a pledge to raise awareness to achieve the goal of hepatitis-free state. Quoting the report of the WHO, Dattatreya said only 10 per cent of the people living with hepatitis B and 19 per cent with hepatitis C were aware of their status.
Being well-informed about the viral hepatitis was the first step.
Hepatitis B and C virus infections were the major cause of liver diseases and measures should be taken to prevent it.
