Steve “Gribbo” Gribbin used a run of bad luck to campaign for a better world. The well-known Tamworth man tragically passed away on February 29.

Mr Gribbin overcame Hepatitis C after decades of suffering and finally had a liver transplant in 2016, which inspired him to form the Liver Support Group Australia and New Zealand.

He came out victorious in his fight to put life-saving hepatitis treatment onto the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
He helped found the Rotary Club of Tamworth Sunrise more than a decade ago.

To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement

Then, in a shattering blow last year, Mr Gribbin was diagnosed with an aggressive blood cancer.

“Gribbo was our Charter President, a mentor to young members and a sounding board for all,” a Facebook post from the Tamworth Sunrise club said.

“His passion, enthusiasm and commitment to Service Clubs, both Apex and now Rotary, was contagious and his community spirit was inspiring.

“To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement.”

Tamworth Sunrise rallied around their founding president and “great mate”.

The club gave some pricey buzz-cuts to locals to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation in April 2019, clocking up more than $19,000.

A public service will be held to “celebrate Gribbo’s life” at 11am on March 21 at West Diggers, Kable Avenue in Tamworth.
